CENTRIFUGE MODEL SETUP

3.1 Introduction

In order to make the present study as close to the prototype condition as possible, the goetechnical properties of Singapore marine clay and the construction aspects of excavation are first examined and used as a reference for the design of the centrifuge model. The principles and scaling of centrifuge modelling are then presented. In this chapter, the design of the centrifuge model and the set-up of test equipment are introduced. Finally, the test procedures and the technique for in-flight excavation and installation of lateral slabs are described.
